In a significant development, BCI Minerals Limited (ASX: BCI) has inked a binding offtake agreement with a subsidiary of PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk, marking a pivotal step in the advancement of its Mardie Salt Project. The agreement, spanning a three-year term with potential extension, solidifies BCI’s position in the Indonesian market and underscores its commitment to sustainable partnerships in the region.

PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk is a prominent player in Indonesia’s chemical and infrastructure landscape, renowned for its innovative solutions and market leadership. The company’s diverse portfolio includes a range of chemical products and services, catering to various industries across the region. For more information about PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk, visit their website here.

Under the terms of the agreement, Chandra Asri will leverage salt supplied from BCI’s Mardie Salt Project for its world-scale chlor-alkali plant currently under development in Indonesia. This mutually beneficial partnership not only secures a stable supply chain for Chandra Asri but also positions BCI as a key player in Indonesia’s chemical and infrastructure landscape.

BCI Managing Director, David Boshoff, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating,

“BCI is delighted to have entered into an offtake agreement with Chandra Asri, one of Indonesia’s leading chemical and infrastructure companies.”

The sentiment was echoed by Chandra Asri’s CEO, Erwin Ciputra, who emphasized the significance of the partnership in advancing their plans for a world-scale caustic soda and ethylene dichloride plant.

The agreement outlines an initial supply volume of 300,000 tons per annum in the first year, scaling up to 600,000 tons annually in subsequent years to align with the ramp-up of the Mardie Salt Project. This not only ensures a steady revenue stream for BCI but also contributes to meeting the offtake requirements necessary for accessing debt financing.

Salt supply from the Mardie Salt Project is slated to commence in the second half of 2026, contingent upon regulatory approvals, fulfillment of conditions precedent for debt project financing, and successful completion of construction and commissioning activities.

The agreement follows BCI’s earlier memorandum of understanding (MOU) with MIND ID for potential salt offtake and equity investment, with BCI subsequently securing required equity, obviating the need for MIND ID’s investment.

BCI acknowledges the support received from MIND ID and the Indonesian government in facilitating its entry into the Indonesian market, which boasts an annual consumption of approximately 4.4 million tons per annum of high-grade salt. The partnership with Chandra Asri underscores BCI’s strategic vision and commitment to sustainable growth in the region.

With the offtake agreement in place and construction progressing as scheduled, BCI is poised to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for high-grade salt in Indonesia, reaffirming its position as a key player in the global salt market.
